Alex Cohen is a photographer and recent graduate of New York University, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Imaging from the Tisch School of the Arts, with a minor in Social and Cultural Analysis from the College of Arts and Science. Originally from Dallas, Texas, she has a longstanding interest in the arts, community engagement, and the ways creative spaces bring people together.
Her interest in the arts began at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, where she explored disciplines ranging from printmaking and painting to ceramics, jewelry, and photography. Being surrounded by artists with different backgrounds, perspectives, and creative approaches helped shape her understanding of art as something that extends beyond individual practice. It also sparked her appreciation for the friendships, conversations, and communities that develop through shared creative experiences.
Alex currently serves as Programming Director at Artists Talk on Art (ATOA), the longest-running art panel organization in the United States, where she develops weekly public programs. In this role, she coordinates with artists, manages event logistics and technical execution, and contributes to the preservation and accessibility of the organization's history. The Artists Talk on Art archive is held by the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution and includes over 60 boxes of records and more than 1,200 audio and video recordings featuring over 9,000 artists. Through this work, she has developed a strong understanding of how arts organizations operate day to day and the level of care required to produce thoughtful and accessible programming.
During her time at NYU, Alex was named to the Tisch School of the Arts Dean's List several years in a row. She has also participated in civic and community-based initiatives, including work with the Dallas Youth Commission on a public mural project for the City of Dallas and nearly six years of volunteer service with the Mockingbird Chapter of the National Charity League. These experiences have strengthened her appreciation for community involvement and the importance of creating opportunities for people to connect through shared experiences.
Outside of her professional work, Alex enjoys exploring museums and galleries, discovering new artists, and learning about the different ways people experience and connect with art. She is especially interested in the people and relationships behind creative work, and believes that some of the most valuable experiences in the arts come from being open to different perspectives and learning from others.
Across her creative and professional experiences, Alex hopes to continue supporting artists, bringing people together, and contributing to cultural spaces that feel welcoming, engaging, and accessible.
